New Year's Concert 2014 with Daniel Barenboim

The 74th annual New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic takes place on January 1, 2014, under the baton of Daniel Barenboim in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. This year the concert will be televised in over 90 countries with 16 cameras in use to capture the broadcast images. In the year 2014, the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I will be commemorated. Therefore the Vienna Philharmonic considered it to be essentially relevant to invite peace activist Daniel Barenboim for the New Year's Concert 2014 and to set a corresponding emphasis in the program

The Rockefeller Center Christmas 

Tree is a world-wide symbol of the holidays in New York City. The 2014 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit for the first time on Wednesday, December 3 with live performances from 7–9 PM, at Rockefeller Plaza, between West 48th and West 51st Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Tens of thousands will crowd the sidewalks for the event and hundreds of millions will watch it live across the globe. The Tree will remain lit and can be viewed until 8pm on January 7th, 2015.

Tree Lighting History

For over seven decades, the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center and the holiday decorations adorning and surrounding have stood as a holiday beacon for New Yorkers and visitors alike. From the beginning, the Tree was a gathering place and reflection of what was happening in the world around it. Even before the first formal tree went up, workers lined up beneath a Christmas tree on the Rockefeller Plaza construction site to collect their paychecks during the height of the Great Depression. People from around the world came after September 11th to see the Tree decorated in a patriotic red, white and blue. Today, more than half a million people pass by the Tree very day, making Rockefeller Center the epicenter of New York City’s holiday celebrations.

Some of the most powerful and emotionally moving voices in music come together to celebrate the holidays on “CMA Country Christmas,” which tapes in front of a live audience Friday, Nov. 7 (7:30 PM/CT), at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. The special, which features Jennifer Nettles hosting for the fifth year, airs this holiday season on ABC.

“After being the host of ‘CMA Country Christmas,’ for five years now, it is hard to pick one thing I love about it. There are so many fun moments,” Nettles said. “Whether it is the performances or duets, getting to perform Christmas songs with great artists is really fun for me. It’s really a fun show all around.”

Artists scheduled to perform and celebrate the season include Dan + Shay, Brett Eldredge, Sara Evans, Lucy Hale, Hunter Hayes, Little Big Town, Idina Menzel, Nettles, LeAnn Rimes, Michael W. Smith, and Carrie Underwood.

“The taping for ‘CMA Country Christmas’ is a jump-start for the holiday season and has become a family tradition for many Nashville residents,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “Adding to the celebration is our annual toy drive, which provides new toys for children in need, shining a spotlight on a worthy endeavor in a way that reflects the values and giving nature of our artists, the industry, and this city.”

For the third year, audience members are being encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the taping to help make the holidays brighter for Nashville area children. The Nashville-based non-profit group Generosity will have volunteers on site with specially marked bins to collect toys beginning at 5:00 PM/CT on Nov. 7. In 2013, the group collected more than 5,000 toys.

“Our artist community is extremely generous and so are our fans,” Trahern said. “It is our goal to make sure no child goes without a present this Christmas and we are grateful to our partners at Generosity for helping to make this a dream come true for children in Nashville.”
